Murungaikai Gojju

Murungaikai Gojju (Drumstick Gojju). As a kid, my mom found it difficult to make me eat Drumstick. She used to try hard to make me just taste the veggie. I basically didn't like to chew the skin but liked the pulp. So she started making these gojju's especially for me. I eventually started to empty the gojju before my dad gets home (couldn't resist Dad - Sorry! ;)).
Ingredients:
Drumstick (broader, young ones) - 10
Onion - 1
Tomato (big) - 1
Curry Leaves - few
Coriander Leaves - few
Turmeric Powder - 1/4 tsp
Chilli Powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - to taste
Asafoedita - pinch
Oil - 2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
Channa dal - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
Water - to cook drumsticks

Method:
1. Cut the drumsticks into few pieces and cook them fully in water with pinch of turmeric and pinch of salt.
2. Remove the inner pulp in the drumsticks, discard the outer part and keep aside.
3. In a pan, splutter mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal, cumin seeds, asafoedita, curry leaves.
4. Add Onions and saute for a while.
5. Add tomato and saute for few mins.
6. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and saute.
7. Add drumstick pulp, water (if required) and saute.
8. Garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.

Drumsticks look great I know many of us dont eat drumstick for the reason we find it difficult to eat the pulp and discard the skins... This would make everyone like Drumsticks... I love drumsticks for every reason and just a quick question is it enough to cook the drumsticks with just water or with spices? Too much spices will spoil the dish I know...

Hi Ramya,
Thanks for leaving a msg. Yes, cos I like it plainly with less spices. My mom used to add extra tomato at times. And it's no harm to give a twist by adding little coriander powder/tamarind/coconut in any form. It's basically ingredients you like :)
