Vazhaipoo Vadai is an authentic Tamilnadu delicacy. Banana flowers combined with Bengal gram and deep fried to make this mouth watering starter.

Ingredients:Banana flower - 1
Channa dal - 1 cup
Onion - 1
Green chilli - 2
Ginger garlic crushed - 2 tsp
Curry leaves - some
Coriander leaves - some
Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
Saunf -1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 2 pinch
Asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
Salt - to taste
Oil - for deep frying
Buttermilk - 2 cup
Method:
1. Soak Channa dal for at least a couple of hour.
2. Remove the stamen, chop the florets, soak them in buttermilk to avoid decoloration.
3. Wash dal and drain the water completely.
4. Grind 1/2 of the dal alone coarsely.
5. Mix onion, green chillies, ginger garlic, curry leaves, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, saunf, florets (drain all water before adding), salt.
6. Mix everything to form a thick dough.
7. Pinch a portion, roll it like a golf ball and flatten it between your palm.
8. Heat oil and gently drop from the sides of the kadai, without touching it.
9. Drain excess oil and serve with chutney/sambar/sauce.
